3 Tips to Step Up Your Self Care Routine
Studies show that self care is more than a buzzword. But in a world that is constantly telling us to hustle, rise and grind, and be a goal digger, it’s hard to be okay with slowing down and taking time to recharge.
Spreading yourself thin is not the answer, and will actually make you less productive, especially if you work in an environment where there is a need to be constantly plugged in to your email, phone or social media.
If you’re tired of running on empty, follow these 3 tips to prioritize your self, so that you have more time and energy to do the things you love.
1. Cut the noise.
We live in a society where being connected on social media can constantly make us feel inadequate or less than. If you find yourself, after hours of endless scrolling, feeling negative or wishing you had (insert whatever that thing is here), it might be time to re-evaluate who you are following on social media. Fill your feed with positivity and encouragement, limit the time you spend scrolling, and, when all else fails, go on a social media sabbatical. Which leads to tip #2…
2. Take a sabbatical.
Liberate yourself from the constant need to check-in, post, tweet, go live, and share that perfect picture that took you 100 photos to land. Take a day, a week or even a month to not check your social media accounts, especially if you find yourself spending hours per day online. Use that time to read, write, work on a hobby or do that thing that you’ve been putting off.
3. Actually care for yourself.
This means taking a walk, getting active, going outside for fresh air, playing with the kids, eating healthier, and doing things that your body will thank you for. This also means showing yourself some love not by buying more, but buying items that will enhance your life. Maybe it’s investing in that diffuser that you’ve had your eye on, or buying sustainable clothing from a company that donates a portion of their profits to help women in underserved communities.
